The effects of two wars in former Netherlands East Indies are still felt nowadays. First, there was a war with Japan, followed by the Indonesian War of Independence. Although many of us have been affected by the past, the Foundation Dialogue Netherlands - Japan - Indonesia wishes to work for a future of peace and cooperation on the basis of understanding and reconciliation. That is why this foundation organizes the annual Dialogue Conference Netherlands - Japan - Indonesia for the Dutch, Japanese and Indonesians.

It is for both young and old who want to remember and overcome the past. During the conference participants will go into conversation and dialogue through telling our own stories and meeting together. The effects of two wars in former Netherlands East Indies are still felt nowadays. Theme of 2017: Women’s stories from an Indonesian perspective

The theme for the 20st conference is focusing on the history, role and position of Indonesian women in the Dutch East Indies during the occupation by the Japanese during the second world war and the periods before and after the war. Several speakers (see image below) will address this from the Indonesian perspective. After lunch there is the opportunity to exchange dialogue on the aspects that you consider relevant or interesting in small groups. The group leaders will have undergone training in this particular matter by experienced professionals.
