Food, health and sustainability: what do we choose?

What are the moral dilemmas that arise around the theme of food?  What should we take into account as consumers? Health, environment, fair prices?  On what basis do we make choices? And what should we therefore know?

With the growing need for sustainable production and consumption in the world, and the recognition of this need in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, industry and consumers alike are looking for effective tools and networks to support the transition and achieve the targets.

This evening will focus on the chemicals that have been used lavishly since the forties of the last century. We cannot avoid them as they are everywhere: in our food, but also in other products we use. But do we know the known health risks? Don’t we as consumers have a right to know what is safe and what is not, in order to make responsible choices?

Rishab KhannaTo help us to do this Swedish nutrition consultant Ingrid Franzon and the Indian environmental activist, living in Sweden, Rishabh Khanna, founders of EnvirohealthMatters, developed with others Toxxscan. This is an instrument that can help consumers to make safer choices and encourage producers to find alternative results. They are in the Netherlands to consult with likeminded partners and to bring together the Swedish and Dutch experiences.

Tatiana SokolovaOn the 16th of October Ingrid Franzon and Rishabh Khanna will share with us their insights and experiences and want to hear ours. Their actions take place under the flag of the Initiatives of Change programme Trust and Integrity in the Global Economy (TIGE). The coordinator of the TIGE international annual  conference, Tatiana Sokolova, will tell how the conference has engaged various stakeholders in the theme of food and sustainability over the years.
